Weekend Review

Weekend Review

What does the future hold for Jose Mourinho? That is the major talking point of the weekend as the Chelsea boss faces his biggest challenge following that poor 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Liverpool. I think he wants to be sacked. Everything the man does is a calculated move and I think he wants out. In many ways he has thrown the kitchen sink at the job this season in terms of making big decisions. He has dropped Fabregas, Matic and Terry in recent weeks and nothing seems to stir a reaction from his side. He is cutting a lonely figure on the touchline and looks to be floundering under the pressure. I really hope Roman Abramovich keeps his nerve and his finger off of the trigger as I want to see Jose work his through this and prove to us all his greatness. He is not the sort of man to just walk away, is he?
It was a great weekend of Premiership action but not an overly profitable one for myself as I opposed a few short priced favourites. Trusting Sunderland will be hard to do moving forward after that dismal showing on Merseyside yesterday. Plus a goal they looked a solid play to keep it tight against Everton and despite rallying from 2-0 down back to 2-2 they capitulated to a 6-2 hammering! Arsenal did us over on Saturday as I quite liked Swansea straight up for the victory in Wales. The Gunners had other ideas though as they comfortably brushed the home team aside 3-0. When we did side with a hefty home favourite -1.5 they failed to cover as Man City players squabbled over a penalty. Kolarov missed the penalty and as the blue side of Manchester only emerged 2-1 victors our handicap bet did not cash!

Our Goal Rush went 3-3 for the weekend as two defeats on Sunday saw us make a small loss on the weekends games. We are now heading into the winter months and as we know that bad weather helps game trend to the unders we should be mindful of the weather conditions at grounds moving forward. At 34-18 for the season though we are still well in profit so it will take more than one losing day for us to consider serious adjustments.
The Division Two Stats Pack continued its mix run of recent results. When Plymouth took a 2-0 home lead over Morecambe after just twelve minutes it looked almost certain that our bet of the week on the over 2.5 goals would land. Sadly there was no further scoring on the south coast as the league leaders saw out the game to keep their lead at five points. Success did come though at Stevenage where we called the over 2.5 goals correctly and at Mansfield where we laid the home team. No on BTTS and under 2.5 goals cashed for us in east London where Accrington gained a great 1-0 win at Orient but sadly for us Portsmouth were not able to hang on to an early lead at Notts County and lost 2-1.

The NFL weekend kicked off on Thursday night when New England smashed Miami 36-7 to stretch their unbeaten run this season to seven games. It was a tricky weekend in the NFL from a betting perspective and my only strong feeling was the over 42.5 points in the Chicago/Minnesota game. This bet landed thanks to a last second Blair Walsh field goal that saw the Vikings leave Chicago with a 23-20 victory. Peyton Manning silenced the doubters last night in Denver as once again the home dog, live on primetime with the better defense philosophy bore fruit for punters. Denver need to be taken seriously as title contenders as Manning can still do enough to keep them in games and their defense is one of the best in football, if not the best!
Having gone into the week 22-13 in my just for fun SuperContest picks I went 1-3 with the Indianapolis Colts going for me tonight. I did say in my Sunday blog for the NFL games that I thought this was the hardest card I had ever seen, hence just my one bet myself. In the SuperContest you do not have the luxury of passing a week as you have to pick five games each week. If I can get away with a 2-3 week I would be over the moon!

Unlike Monday Night Football in America, where I am taking the underdog, in our own Monday Night Football I will be on Tottenham straight up and to cover the -1.25 handicap. Spurs are playing at a high level and the away side look to be a rudderless ship.

Good luck with your bets and we will speak soon.

Jimmy
